Therapeutic & Sports Massage

Most of our clients would agree that massage is an essential for stress management, rehabilitation or regular body maintenance and shouldn't be viewed as "just a treat" although there's not much else that makes for such a personalised gift!

All our massages include a consultation that doesn't come out of your table time. This gives us the chance to discuss your goals for the session, to select methods or techniques and plan a treatment specific to your needs at the time. We can also offer post care advice at the end of your session to help you continue the benefits of your massage for as long as possible

Therapeutic/Remedial Massage

All Massage is 'therapeutic' but 'therapeutic massage' commonly refers to deep tissue or remedial massage.

These treatments may include the use of trigger point, muscle energy, positional release, mobilization, myofascial techniques and more, to engage other tissues in the body that may be adhered other than muscles. This can allow more focused freedom of restricted areas and promotion of the healing process towards specific places like injuries.

The massage is conducted within your comfort zone but may bring the intensity level to the edge which could require a bit more communication with you but even with our most intense therapeutic massage we incorporate relaxation techniques to soothe and leave you feeling like you just had a really “good” massage.

Therapeutic Massage is useful as a tool in the rehabilitation of more serious injuries such as frozen shoulders, slipped discs and Occupational Overuse Syndromes.

Please Note: It is common during your first Therapeutic Massage for your Therapist to spend some extra time going through basic movement tests to help focus and refine your treatment. This may take up to 20 mins of your Table time.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is Therapeutic Massage applied to sports people using a variety of techniques depending on your needs and training phase.

Sports Massage can be an essential part of a training schedule whether you're a professional or weekend athlete by helping to maintain optimal muscle health, increasing flexibility, reducing workout, event or injury recovery times or as a warm up/down tool at specific events.

Our private sessions are designed to help you become familiar with some of the common yoga poses, or for the more experienced yoga enthusiast to refine their techniques and practise. Dermal Needling

Dermal needling is also known as micro-needling or collagen induction therapy is a non-invasive, non-ablative facial rejuvenation procedure.

The use of a facial roller studded with very fine stainless steel needles or a mechanical pen-like instrument with medical grade needles in the tip creates controlled injury underneath the skin surface, inducing the body to respond by creating new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibres as well as new capillaries for improved blood supply. How it works

As the micro-needles move over your skin, it creates micro-point punctures in the skin, the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. You encourage your skin to continue healing through this micro-needling process.

Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are repaired, but with micro-needling treatments, the skin is tricked into repairing itself. The process of micro-needling skin remodeling can go on for months after each Dermal needling treatment. Results can be seen within a week or even a few days. Q&A:

Does it hurt?

No, not at all. Prior to your Dermal needling treatment, an anesthetic cream is applied to numb your skin. You will feel the Pen/roller on your skin, so you will feel sensation, but no pain.

How Many Treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed does vary depending on the condition being treated, but the following are very good guidelines:

· Acne Scarring 4-6 Treatments, 6 weeks apart.

· Skin Rejuvenation/Collagen Induction 4-6 Treatments, 4 weeks apart.

What can I expect after treatment?

The treated area will be red for 12-48 hours and your skin may feel warmer and tighter than usual. You should keep your face free of make-up that day. After that the redness can be minimized with a concealer. The skin may flake slightly 2-3 days after the procedure.

How long do the results last?

The results from micro-needling skin remodeling can go on for months after each Dermal needling treatment. Results can be seen from one to eight weeks later. Typically you will see results after your first treatment.

Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4-6 treatments when spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with micro-needling stimulation changes can be effective and ongoing. Full effects of skin tightening might not show until 6months after your last treatment.

Should I Prepare My Skin Before Having A Dermal needling Treatment?

For faster recovery times and optimal results we recommend using an effective active treatment cream with Vitamin A and C for a period pre and post treatment to allow your skin to build up the levels of these vitamins needed to optimise healing and repair.

If treating a specific skin condition such as acne, scars or pigmentation, then other pre & post products will be recommended.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects experienced with the Dermal needling will usually subside within 24-48 hours. They include erythema, stinging, itching, tightness of the skin.*

What should I do after treatment?

Using tepid water to cleanse the face for the first 48 hours following treatment and drying the area gently without rubbing; ensuring that hands are always clean when touching the area treated, to avoid infections;

not applying conventional make-up products to the skin for the first 12 hours following treatment, some mineral based make-up products are able to be applied as recommended by your practitioner; applying a broad spectrum sunscreen product with a high SPF.

Who should not undergo this procedure?

Skin needling treatment is suitable for all skin types, including dark skins.

However, it is not suitable for clients who have:
Used Roaccutane within the last 3 months
Open wounds, cuts or abrasions to the skin
Had radiation treatment within the last year
A current outbreak of herpes simplex (cold sores) or any other infection or chronic skin condition in the area to be treated
Areas of the skin that are numb or lack sensation
Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing
Have active acne
Skin needling is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women due to a number of minor reasons. The needles produce micro-injuries which trigger the natural wound healing response. This wound healing and production of new collagen requires vitamins and nutrients which would otherwise be needed for the baby so it is suggested to not be used during pregnancy.
Another minor reason is simply increasing the chances of infection which is never a good idea when pregnant.

Gel Services

A Gel polish goes on like polish, is hard wearing, strengthens the nail and stays put for a minimum of two weeks. It remains perfect and glossy right up until removal making it ideal for the busy Wellington lifestyle.

Thin and flexible like polish, it is applied over the natural nail and provides strong nail protection that resists dullness and chipping, all whilst helping to maintain the integrity of the nail as it grows out.

Gel manicure (50 mins)

To start, nails are filed and shaped, your cuticles are tidied and Just Gel polish is applied. The polish is cured under an LED lamp between each coat. To finish, warm towels are used to refresh your hands, cuticle oil is applied and your choice of Surmanti hand cream is massaged into your hands.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

The lymphatic system is an important part of our immune system. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) simply assists the body’s lymph flow and may help support a healthy immune system. One needs to imagine the lymph system as like the body’s waste disposal. It is responsible for cleansing our tissues and maintaining a balance of fluids within the body. It filters waste matter and harmful cells (via lymph nodes) and drains back into large veins of the body just behind the collarbone, on each side of the neck, goes back to the heart and is removed from the body as urine. MLD is often referred to as being a type of massage, however, typically no oil or wax is used during the treatment and it is very gentle and extremely relaxing. Circular rhythmic movements and strokes are used during the treatment.

What is Lymphoedema/water retention?

Most of us will have experienced a bit of swelling in our lower legs at the end of a long working day or after a long period of just standing or sitting down. Now this is considered to be very mild water retention. More specifically, it is a collection of lymphatic fluid in the tissues under the skin. Oedema occurs, when lymph fluid cannot flow as efficiently because some glands may have been removed in surgery or damaged by i.e. radiation therapy. Some early signs of significant water retention include: mild intermittent swelling, tightness or aching and/or heaviness in the affected limb.

Who may benefit from Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Clients suffering from oedema, e.g. swollen ankles during pregnancy

Consultation (45mins)

In this appointment we talk about the your pre care and the appropriate treatment for the desired outcome. We do a patch test for any reactions to the pigment and tint and shape the brows prior to the treatment. At this appointment I will answer any questions the client may have and give forms to read and sign through before the treatment takes place.

Microblading/Feathering/3D Brows (2hrs)
